between CA-19-9 concentrations in blood and whether or not patients were taking supplements. Thus, cystic fibrosis is one of the first benign diseases shown to be associated with high CA-19-9 concentrations in blood. The origin of CA-19-9 in these patients instill unknown. it is unlikely to be derived from the pancreas because patients with pancreatitis reportedly have low concentrations of this antigen in their serum (2,3). It may, however, be a specific mucin produced by cystic fibrosis patients. If so, a study on its mechanism of production might provide an insight into the etiology of cystic fibrosis. Finally, measurement of CA-19-9 in blood could be an adjuvant diagnostic aid in cystic fibrosis.

Serum digoxin in the presence of digibind: determination of digoxin by the Abbott AxSYM and Baxter Stratus II immunoassays by direct analysis without pretreatment of serum samples.
We have reevaluated the feasibility of using direct immunochemical methods to track free digoxin in patients receiving Digibind. We report here that results obtained by the Stratus II and AxSYM immunoassays on patients receiving digoxin (without Digibind), digoxin-fortified serum samples supplemented with Digibind, and a digitoxic patient treated with Digibind, show no clinically significant bi...
متن کاملAbbott TDx, Dade Stratus, and Du Pont aca automated digoxin immunoassays compared with a reference radioimmunoassay method.
Automated digoxin immunoassays with the Abbott TDx, Dade Stratus, and Du Pont aca were evaluated against an RIA similar to the Centers for Disease Control Candidate Reference Method. All three automated methods correlated poorly with the reference method. Particularly disconcerting were the falsely increased values (up to 0.6 micrograms/L) obtained by the Stratus for blank specimens. We discuss...
متن کاملDigoxin immunoassay with cross-reactivity of digoxin metabolites proportional to their biological activity.
Our objective was to identify commercially available digoxin immunoassays whose cross-reactivity with digoxin metabolites paralleled the pharmacological activity of the metabolites. We measured the immunoreactivity of digoxigenin bis- and monodigitoxosides, digoxigenin, and dihydrodigoxin in four immunoassays and compared the immunoactivities with pharmacological activities from studies involvi...
متن کاملEffect of antibody specificity on results of selected digoxin immunoassays among various clinical groups.
We examined the specificity of three automated digoxin immunoassays (Abbott TDxFLx Digoxin II assay, Baxter-Dade Stratus II Digoxin assay, and Ciba Corning ACS Digoxin assay) applied without modification to (a) sera from 229 digoxin-free patients in 12 cohorts associated with nonspecific or endogenous digoxin-like immunoreactive factor (DLIF) interference, and (b) drug-free serum supplemented w...
متن کاملMonitoring of unbound digoxin in patients treated with anti-digoxin antigen-binding fragments: a model for the future?
Digoxin is one of the few therapeutic drugs for which antidotal therapy is available (1). Administration of Fab fragments has successfully been used to reverse the effects of life-threatening digoxin overdoses for over 20 years. Digoxin-specific Fab fragments are produced by cleaving sheep digoxin-specific IgG with papain to form two Fab fragments (50 000 Da each) and one 50 000-Da Fc fragment ...
